Hello

& welcome

My name is Jessica Centers, and I am an electrical engineer, educator, tech ethics enthusiast, hurdle coach, wife, friend, and more in no particular order. Welcome to my personal site.

On the left of this Welcome page, you will see that the only single-descriptor that I could settle on to describe myself is 'human'.  This is because we as humans are multifaceted, and I do not think society should lose sight of this no matter how natural it becomes to primarily associate with what we do between the hours of 9am and 5pm M-F.

Within the pages of this site, you can find out more about me, my teaching, my research, and my service, in addition to a recommendation page for books, movies, and podcasts that I find worthwhile.

What am I doing now?

I just recently graduate from from Duke University with a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering where my research primarily focused on millimeter-wave radar signal processing. During this time, I also acquired a Certificate in College Teaching and an M.A. in Technology Ethics and Science Policy. These additional accolades round me out as a problem-solver with the skills to teach and encourage others in the field while also critically evaluating the societal impacts of the technologies that my peers and I help to develop.  Prior to being at Duke, I received my B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) with a minor in German Studies.

Currently, I am an engineer at MITRE in the northern Virginia area. In my new role, I am continuing to grow in my signal processing skills while also contributing to important yet challenging technical projects that aim to create a better future for our nation.
